Insulin Resistance

I've been told numerous times, in my diabetic part of life, that I was insulin resistant. Of course, I would ask what that meant. This is the answer I always got. " Your pancreas is producing plenty of insulin but it's not getting into your blood stream." I would ask why and they told me they didn't know. GREAT!!! You know the "what" but not the "why"!!! They knew the symptoms but not the root cause! In the past couple of days I had a friend who sent me a link to "Butter Made My Pants Fall Off!" on YouTube. Now this a corny name but definitely gets your attention!! The man's name is Butter Bob Briggs (say that fast 3 times) and he has several videos that deal with LCHF and the "causes" of weight gain and getting your life back. He, himself, has lost mega lbs! The pictures are amazing. There is one in particular that's titled "Drying Up The Root". I HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching this! In fact, I'm watching it several times! Butter Bob thoroughly explains, not only "what" insulin resistance is but also "why" it is!! I've immediately started implementing his suggestions and I'm so full of HOPE!!

Food for thought...

You can make changes without there being any sign of "improvement", but improvement absolutely cannot happen without "changes". Make your changes count!!

Til next time!

On My Way...

Well, as of January 29, 2016 to date I've lost 17 lbs..  Yay!! I told my cardiologist that I give all the credit to my God Jehovah and His Son Jesus Christ! The LCHF ( low carb healthy fat) style is what works for me to lose weight. As I said in an earlier post, do what you KNOW works for weight loss in a healthy, sensible way.  I've mostly lived my life with the mind set of : All the way or no way at all! In the things that matter most to me, I'll give my energy, time, and substance ($$) to.  So I'm taking this eating plan as my lifestyle for however long I am on this Earth. I want more energy to serve my God and His people. I want more clarity in my mind so I can retain God's Word. Even though this body is a temporary mansion the mindset, desire, and passion I have in taking care of it reveals a lot to God and others watching my life. I don't like the word, "diet", because I and MANY others have "fallen off the wagon ", and in this psyche there's no solid commitment. We use every "event" as a reason to not stick to our plan to reach a goal. If you're from a large family, friends, coworkers there will be a myriad of events to justify with: birthday, work celebration, holidays, weddings, funerals, etc.  So I recognized this and made up my mind that I will have to "plan" ahead of time how and what I will do to prepare for this event. In my church we eat together every Sunday, therefore, I ask ahead of time what the menu will be. Sometimes I can eat it and other times I supplement the meal with a veggie or meat and dessert that I can eat. I've found that I can socialize just as enjoyably with friends and family with my food choices as they are with theirs!

In future posts I will share "myth busters" that have been revealed within  me. My greatest enemy is right between my ears! I shared a couple in this post. I would REALLY LIKE to hear from you on what YOUR personal revelations are on your triumphs or stumbles.

I'm going to learn how to post photos on this blog so stay tuned!

Hello anybody!!  :0)

Feeling the need today to push myself in a manner that brings permanent change and OBVIOUS improvement!  Only when "I go out on a limb" I'll see progress. My Elder Pastor Paul Dyal has a saying that is absolutely true..."if you always do what you've always done, you'll always be what you've always been; and ultimately go where you've always gone"!! I'm a "young" 58 years but having diabetes ages your inside and outside 5 - 8 years older than what your real age is.  In all my searching for solutions in dieting and getting my blood sugar under control, I discovered an important fact.  Everyone is different in body and spirit so if you've had success in weight loss at all...DO WHAT YOU KNOW  WORKS FOR YOU---AND WORK IT!!! I've spent a lot of energy, money and time on LOTS of gimmicks and programs. On Thanksgiving day in 1998 I was introduced to the Atkins Diet. This is a low carb, healthy fat plan. I'd seen very encouraging changes in my elder Pastor's wife and asked her what she was doing.  There was a man I was dating at the time that also wanted to lose weight so we teamed up and started this eating plan. We started the day after Thanksgiving. In 8 months I had lost 72 lbs, but my friend gained weight! Well, events took place that resulted in the end of our dating but still remain friends even to this day.  I kept it off several years but began to lose determination because I seemed to have lost the "want to". I had no companion to support me and there was A LOT of controversy about the Atkins diet and let myself be pursued to drop it. I knew I couldn't be a "loner" in this venture so I ate what my friends ate. Let me also inject here that I had to stop taking insulin because my body was correcting itself. Well, of course as my weight climbed again, so did my blood sugar levels. But God didn't let me resign myself to being obese and diabetic for the rest of my days on this Earth.  In 2014 I started earnestly asking God to help me, to please touch my mind and Will, to change in the ways I needed to. I kept having this "knowing" that there was a way to bring my body under control--to be able to lose weight AND have my blood sugar in control! I started "experimenting" on different elements of  a lifestyle versus dieting.

Hang on!! There is HOPE!
In my future posts I will give specifics on the what, who, how, why and when of this HOPE.

God bless....

Background

My purpose in starting this blog is trifold: 1) that I keep record of my beginning, goals set and journey to my destination. 2) as I journey; to record how Jesus has been with me in every step. 3) to help others that have had the same battle and desperately look for hope!

In The Beginning

1986---I had emergency surgery and within the first week of recovery became infected throughout my abdomen and the next 3 months went through SEVERAL different antibiotics trying to clear up the infection til finally one was found that did work. One night in the 4th month after surgery, I experienced such an obsessive thirst that I drank a half gallon of milk! I mentioned it to a close friend and she urged me to see a doctor and have my blood sugar checked. I did and was immediately put in the hospital with a glucose level of 386! Thus started my "adventure". Over the next 9 years I experienced improper instruction on insulin usage, being berated by doctors and LOTS of frustration and crying out to God.  Then a small light did appear. (although it seemed far far away)  My future posts will continue my journey.

I will try to post as regular as possible. Please feel free to send me comment and/or questions on my posts.
